Re: The Death Penalty

I have a word for what happens when an innocent person is executed because a prosecutor withheld evidence. The word is 'murder.' We have this collective delusion in our society that somehow the actions of agents of the state are imbued with some sort of mystical aura, inuring them from the morality by which the actions of we mere peasants are judged. When an armed gang breaks down the door to your home without cause (as happens again and again here in the land of the free), it's not suddenly made okay by the letters on their jackets or the shiny bits of engraved metal they keep in their pockets. When one man shoots another because the victim is whittling and it terrifies the shooter, it's not okay because the shooter gets his gun and his paycheck from the city government. It's not made any different at all.
