So the Osama bin Laden story is blowing up in our faces. Apparently, he wasn't armed and there was no firefight. Only one person in the compound fired back and that person wasn't in the same wing of the volcano base as Osama.
I'm not typically a conspiracy theorist, but this whole thing stinks to high heaven. Bin Laden wasn't armed and was shot dead in his pajamas. All the men in the compound were killed, and the plan was apparently to take everyone left alive with us. Unfortunately, one of our helicopters crashed, so the Pakistanis have them, and they are blowing holes in the official story.
The White House says the story is changing so much because of the 'fog of war.' I think that's true, but not like they say. I think what happened is this: the operation ended in Bin Laden's death, as was the plan, and the official story went out immediately. Then, as it was realized that we didn't have all the witnesses in custody, the official story started to fall apart, and has now been revised to the point that we have learned that our government sends highly trained commandos in to shoot sick old men in their pajamas.
I don't feel good about this at all. Monstrous as he was, he should have been taken into custody and tried. Had he been killed on the battlefield, or while resisting attempts to take him into custody, fine. But shooting unarmed men- in front of their children, no less- is repugnant, no matter who they are.
