Release the Kraken!

So today's my day off, as you might have guessed. Being a nurse is such a scam, and being an Army nurse on a labor and delivery floor doubly so. Really, it's rent-seeking behavior, since nursing is one of those fields with elevated wages created by needlessly restrictive licensing requirements. Anyway, that's not what I got on here to tell you about. I got on here to tell you about what I spent some of my rent-seeking income on: The Kraken!

The Kraken is a 94 proof black spiced Caribbean rum, and I drink heroic quantities of it, usually mixed with raspberry lemonade. I know beer is typically the drink of choice for soldiers, and rum and lemonade sounds kind of girly, but here in the Pacific Northwest I haven't seen the sun since Halloween and I need a drink with a little brightness to it. The Kraken is ideal. The rum is smooth and sweet, with hints of cinnamon and clove. Mixing it with lemonade adds just the right taste of sour to balance the rum's sweetness, while the bite of the lemonade both mixes with and masks the rum's burn, giving the drink enough kick that my wife turns her nose up at it but not so much that I don't down it by the gallon all damned day. A 2:1 mix of lemonade to rum is ideal.
